Two teenagers, Victor Ibeh and Tony Ezelioha, who allegedly gang-r*ped a 19- year-old girl were on Monday in Lagos released after meeting their bail conditions of N450,000 each.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court that gave the ruling had also asked the accused to provide two sureties each, as part of their bail conditions.
The presiding magistrate, Alexander Komolafe, said one of the sureties must be a religious leader in Lagos State, while the other should own a property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The sureties must also show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
NAN reports that Ezelioha, 19, and Ibeh, 18, both residents in the Ayobo area of Lagos, are facing three counts bordering on assault and r*pe.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sergeant Joseph Ajebe, told the court that they committed the offences on March 27 at about 3pm on Fadairo Street, Ayobo.
He said the complainant and Ibeh had been friends on Facebook for two years. He then decided to invite her to pay him a visit.
Ajebe alleged that when the complainant got to the accused’s house and realised what Ibeh and his friend, Ezelioha, wanted to do, she ran out. They allegedly dragged her inside and r*ped her.
“
The accused r*ped her several times through the anus and later dumped her on the street when they were through,’’ he added.
Sgt. Ajebe said the accused were arrested by the police after the complainant identified them.
According to him, the offences contravene sections 137, 259 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The case was adjourned till May 17 for mention.
