Arsenal has once again pulled an old trick to win the EPL Community Shield on the 6th of August 2017. Arsene Wenger's side seem to know how to come from behind and ultimately steal the show whenever they face an opponent at Wembley. Their London rivals Chelsea, were the most recent victims. The English Premier League champions were defeated via penalty shootout after they were forced to a 1-1 draw after regulation time.
Victor Moses gave the EPL Champions the lead 46 seconds after the commencement of the second half. However, debutant and Arsenal's recent signing, Sead Kolasinac scored from a set-piece to equalise for the FA Cup Champions moments after Pedro was sent off for a harsh tackle on Mohammed Elneny.
The newly introduced ABBA penalty shootout pattern saw the Blues' Captain Gary Cahill open scoring first followed immediately by well-taken back-to-back penalties from Theo Walcott and Nacho Monreal for Arsenal. Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and Alvaro Morata missed from their spot while Oxlade-Chamberlain and much maligned Oliver Giroud sealed victories for the Gunners. It ended 4-1, in favour of Arsenal.
In addition to their record 13 FA Cup titles, Arsenal have now won 3 from the last 4 of the season's first title up for grabs. The Community Shield signals the commencement of the new football league season. Hardly does the season's curtain raiser never live up to expectations.
While the gunners can bask in the euphoria of their recent dominance of the community shield and over Chelsea, history has it that the winner of this title have never gone on to win the season's title except for a rare few occasions.
