JUNE 12: ELDER STATESMEN, LEADERS OF THOUGHT, POLITICAL ACTIVISTS STORM MKO RESIDENCE TO COMMEMORATE 24TH ANNIVERSARY OF JUNE 12 DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT
The June 12 Democracy Movement has announced a breakfast tribute and prayer session for the commemoration of the 24th edition of its anniversary in Nigeria
The movement, which was initiated in 1993, to resist the unilateral annulment of the presidential elections won by MKO Abiola in 1993 by the military is expected to host a solemn commemoration this year.
"The popular democratic struggle initiated on June 12 1993 subsequently gave birth to Nigeria's current democratic experiment"
Therefore, the June 12 Movement in memorial of the historical sacrifices of the Martyr of Nigeria's current democratic aspiration; Bashorun MKO Abiola, who eventually paid the supreme sacrifice with his soul and towards the advancement and consolidation of Democratic governance in Nigeria has in its traditional fashion invited Notable Elder Statesmen, Leaders of thought, Political ideologues and Activists of high repute to commemorate the 24th anniversary at a Breakfast Tributes and Prayers session
The historic programme, which is scheduled to hold at the residence of the late winner of the June 12, 1993 elections is scheduled to start at 8am and end at 12noon
The theme for this year's event is: JUNE 12 AND THE HOPE OF EQUITABLE RESTRUCTURING FOR NIGERIA to be dissected informally by eminent panelists
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to chair the event, while Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, GCON is expected to deliver the Keynote address on the restructuring of Nigeria.
The father of the day is Prof Wole Soyinka (Nobel Laureate)
While the distinguished panel of selected eminent Nigerians from across the six geopolitical zones of the country will be expected to pay tributes, while also engaging the gathering in a sober reflections on the state of Nigeria's democracy within the ambience of this year's theme to be moderated by Olawale Okunniyi (Veteran Che)
It is also expected that the interactive dialogue will attempt to find enduring solution to the current ethnic acrimony and tension in the country
